Summary of the Job Role

The Driver will be responsible for safe driving, for the maintenance of the project vehicle assigned to him/her, for the distribution of project documents and for maintaining radio contact with UNDSS in Dhaka. He/She will work in close collaboration with Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) of project UTF/BGD/040/BGD “Emergency 2007 Cyclone Recovery and Restoration Project – Component A” (ECRRP) with offices in Dhaka and Barisal, Bangladesh. He/she will work under the operational supervision of the FAO-Representative in Bangladesh, the technical supervision of the FAO Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) and the day-to-day operational supervision of the Logistics/Procurement Specialist and will work in close collaboration with all the technical and administrative staff of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will:

  • Drive and maintain the assigned project vehicle;
  • General maintenance, cleaning, upkeep and repair schedules for the assigned vehicle;
  • Maintenance and regular renewal of vehicle documents and personal driver’s license;
  • Must be punctual in routine check-ups such as battery, engine oil, water level, tire conditions, etc.;
  • Proper maintenance and keeping the assigned vehicle log-book updated and overtime sheet as per office requirement;
  • Keep the office informed at all times of any minor/major problems and incidents relating to the assigned vehicle;
  • Must be able to work long hours;
  • Must be prepared to travel to any part of the project with short notice;
  • Must maintain radio contact with Radio-base in Dhaka;
  • Must be willing to help component office with any other assistance when needed;

Work Relationships
In his / her function as Driver of the project, the incumbent acts as direct support to all staff of the project. Thus he/she is in frequent contact with all Officers and Assistants of the project as well as with national and international consultants.

Qualification Requirements and Competencies
Education:
Minimum education Grade VIII completed with valid driving license;

Work Experience:
Essential: At least 6 years of satisfactory driving experience in heavy and light vehicles and in heavy congested traffic.

Desirable: Must be able to communicate in English with international mission members, project staff and consultants;
Candidate having experience in working with UN funded projects/donor agencies will strongly be preferred.

Languages:
Working knowledge of the FAO official language used for communication within the country (English) and working knowledge of the local language(s) is required.

Interpersonal Communications and Teamwork Skills:
The incumbent must possess a cooperative spirit, flexibility and openness to work in an international environment within a team of staff with mixed skills and different national and cultural backgrounds. He / she must we willing to work long hours. He / she must be able to establish good working relations with supervisor(s), staff members, and counterparts from within and outside the Organization.

Duty Station: Component Management and Co-ordination Unit (CMCU), Dhaka and/or Barisal at the Sub-Component Implementation Cells (SCICs) and to the field.
