PROGRAM MANAGER - LITERACY – is responsible for developing and implementing a literacy program that is in line with Room to Read’s new strategic plan focusing on literacy. This position in collaboration with the country, regional and global team will lead the research, development and design of the program.  The position reports to the Program Director, Dhaka-based and requires frequent travel to field.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct research on reading/literacy
  2. Organize consultations with governments, NGOs and other stakeholders
  3. Develop a reading program strategy
  4. Lead the development of instructional materials, training program, and a core team for literacy
  5. Develop a monitoring and evaluation strategy for the program
  6. Create systems for process documentation and sharing
  7. Support the Program Director in Literacy program implementation
  8. Orient and train teachers, partner NGO staff, school heads, administrators and/or trainers on the reading program
  9. Assist Global Literacy Team in capacity building programs for country program teams and partners
  10. Establish and manage relationships with other NGO’s and government
  11. Research and recommend improvements to the program
  12. Responsible for preparing and overseeing budgets for the literacy program
  13. Write internal reports regarding the status and progress of the program
  14. Responsible for providing information and help write proposals and reports for donors
  15. Help develop and maintain the Literacy  section of the global projects database, including checking quality of data and running reports as needed
  16. Responsible for planning and coordination of internal conferences, meetings and training related to the program
  17. Participate in any other activities, which may be required.

Qualifications:

  1. Masters’ degree in Social Sciences or Education
  2. At least 7 years of work experience in primary education
  3. Experience of developing educational learning materials and for students or teachers
  4. Experience of developing and conducting training programs for teachers
  5. Excellent knowledge and understanding of teaching methodologies, curriculum and teachers training at primary stage
  6. Strong planning, supervising, and program development skills
  7. Understanding of monitoring, evaluation, and process documentation
  8. Ability to travel frequently to field
  9. Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and a low overhead
  10. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  11. Excellent computer operating skill.
